Bellwether Church Culture

Bellwether church is a rescued people who love and serve God in the world.

We guard the cultural identity of Bellwether. We will not deny with our activities what we proclaim with our message.  We will seek to develop a gospel culture through the teams that we lead.  We will correct any attitude or action that is the antithesis of our culture.

We are optimistic about the work of the church.  Success is not the number of people who come but the embodiment of these core identities. Every chance we get, we see and celebrate the embodiment of the core values of our church.

Rescued

We are rescued.  We will first see ourselves as a person who is rescued by Jesus.  We are humble and teachable.  We are not motivated by impressions because God already knows who we are at our worst.

We are grateful. Because Christ has taken the punishment we deserved, every good thing is a gift, not deserved, but received.  Our culture is marked by gratitude.

We are Growing.  Because God has rescued us we are open to growth in all areas. We will give time and attention to the development of ourselves and others. We will always be learning and growing while we are investing our lives in others.

We are humble.    Because we believe that we are sinners who all needed a savior, we avoid being defensive or blaming others for any areas of growth or weakness. We are eager to receive constructive feedback for the work that we provide.

Connected

We are connected.  God has welcomed us into His family.  The way we relate to one another is changed and shaped by the gospel.  We are loyal teammates who assume the best and are generous with the benefit of the doubt.

We are Family Members.  We will guard our singleness or family responsibilities as a set of boundaries for our role.  We will strive to make our secondary vocation of working in the church in alignment with other important covenants to which we have been called (Mother, Father, Wife, Husband, Daughter, Son.) This requires that we manage our time well and balance our work effectively.

We are unified. We will present a united front as a team, we value the team first. Collaborative decisions are discussed with honesty.  Private disagreements conclude with public allegiance.  If we are not the best person for the role, we will make the needed changes for the good of the team.

We honor one another.  We see, acknowledge, and celebrate the differences of our team.  Rather than exalting ourselves over one another, we outdo one another in showing honor.

We enjoy the team. We experience joy relationally with the people around us. We laugh loud, hard, and often.  Our greatest problem has been solved in Christ, so everything else can be experienced with open hearts and great fun.

We are faithful in communication. We are growing in our ability to communicate clearly, meeting expectations and deadlines, listening to needs, and responding with grace.  Our interactions will be seasoned with grace, timely and respectful.

We respect boundaries. We relate to members of the team and everyone we lead, in a way that is respectful to them and seeks to avoid any appearance of evil.  Our interactions will hold the highest bar of integrity and purity.

Devoted

We walk with Jesus.  We are first followers of Jesus Christ before we are workers in His Church.  We will cultivate a relationship with God that is growing and vibrant.  We spend regular time with him where our souls are being filled with His grace and truth.

We work with Joy.  We see our offering of work as an act of worship.  There is no part of our work that does not hold potential for Christ to be exalted.  Our work is not a space for grumbling or complaining.

We make things better. We understand that as leaders, we can’t just work in the job we have; we must work on the job we have. We reject good for great. We must create space to see how we are doing and what’s coming. We will seek to stay ahead so that we can be stewards of our time rather than reactionary users of it.  We are taking steps to improve the skills required to perform our work.

We are discipling others. Every area of oversight and leadership is an opportunity to cultivate devotion to Christ in those we lead.  We want to see vibrant disciples at Bellwether who fully embody the values of our church.

Empowered

God gives us strength.  Faithful ministry only comes from a spiritual life that is dynamic and connected to Christ who empowers our work. We will not neglect our relationship with God as our primary source of power.

We bleed the Mission.  We believe in the mission of Bellwether church.  We are genuinely excited about what God is doing here among us. We sacrifice and give ourselves to the work to be done equipping others, making disciples, and facilitating our specific areas of oversight.

We work hard. Our work is done right, on time, and growing in excellence.  Because the task of disciple-making is most important, we will strive with all our power to do our part of it well.

We are replicating ourselves. We are actively developing the people around us.  We don’t just get the work done, we develop others while we do it.  We never work alone when a team could be recruited, developed and deployed.  We never hesitate to invite others to join up with the meaningful work that God is accomplishing through Bellwether.

We are winsome. Because Christ is glorious to us, His traits are becoming glorious in us. We share an attractive spirituality that is a demonstration of the gospel to those around us. We are welcoming and warm and actively seek to recruit new people to the mission of God through Bellwether Church.
